| Description: | |
| Vegetation: | The present vegetation is dominated by Acer saccharinum with co-dominants of Ulmus americana. The Ulmus has been severely depleted by Dutch Elm disease. Many of the Acers have been cut - indeed it would appear as if the entire area has been felled, since these two species were the only arboreal species noted. [Luciuk 1976] |
| Landform: | The flat Napanee (limestone) Plain, with its thin soil cover is an area supporting very few present day, natural lakes. However, it has become obvious that many flat, currently muck-filled basins once did support lakes. The present site at Albert Fen was cored and found to illustrate a pattern quite like that at Fisher Creek. The upper muck soil extends to about 40 cm, passing down into marl deposits with shells (indicative of lakes with continuous water cover at some stage in the past). In sufficient research has yet been done on the sites and lake intervals have yet to be accurately determined. [Luciuk 1976] |
