| Description: | This is one of the few remaining areas in the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton that contain forest over 100 years old. The site supports potential old-growth sugar maple - beech forest on non-acidic till and potential old-growth silver maple swamp forest on marine clay. The sugar maple - beech forest contains about 40% sugar maple and 20% black maple. Maple syrup is currently extracted from the northern section of the site. Some moderate selective cutting has occurred recently. [Brownell and Blaney 1997] |
