| Description: | This site consists almost entirely of upland sugar maple forest on shallow non-acidic drift over limestone bedrock. There is a small amount of white cedar and ash forest. About a quarter of the natural area contains forest in good to excellent condition that is over 80 years old. This is one of only a few sites in the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton that support potential old-growth forest (100-139 years old) and it may contain the largest examples. At the northern end of the natural area, alvar-like openings are frequent and are in good condition. [Brownell and Blaney 1997] |
